Telecom Innovations Bring the World of Knowledge to Schools and Educators

Advances in telecommunications have revolutionized the way we learn. From distance learning to cutting-edge, in-classroom tools, America’s students and educators are already experiencing technology that opens new doors. Yet, we have barely begun to scratch the surface of the educational innovations that could be available to us…if a deregulated telecom policy replaces dated government regulations protecting today’s progress.

WBIA is asking Washington for regulated telecom policies that not only reflect today’s modern telecom marketplace, but also ensure that all telecom providers preserve vital social objectives, such as universal service, which provides Internet access to schools and libraries across the nation.

By allowing head-to-head competition and unbridled telecom innovation to spark new cycles of invention and investment, our education community can look forward to the following benefits:

  • Universal Internet Access in Our Schools and Libraries—Linking any learning environment with the world, from the halls of the Louvre to the Great Wall of China to the archives of the United States Congress.
  • Transcending Geography through Distance Learning—Offering access to advanced placement classes, educational tools for people with disabilities, and life-long learning that will enhance America’s global competitiveness.
  • Modern Communications Networks in Our Communities—Speeding exciting new broadband-based technologies and other promising innovations greatly benefiting our communities to schools, libraries, businesses and local residents.
  • New Jobs and Economic Growth—Driving significant opportunities for the young Americans being prepared by educators for the 21st century workforce.
  • Safeguarding the Future of Universal Service and Other Vital Social Objectives—Ensuring all schools and libraries have affordable access to Internet connections and that reliable 911 service and law enforcement needs are upheld by all telecom providers.

America needs to protect telecom innovations that bring the world of knowledge to shools and educators.
